Ada Monzón: A Life Of Courage And Conviction

Ada R. Monzón is a trailblazer, the first female meteorologist in Puerto Rico. She is also the Founder and President of the Board of Directors of the EcoExploratorio: Museum of Sciences. This incredible woman has dedicated her life to science and inspiring future generations to follow in her footsteps.

Ada Monzón’s passion for weather began at a young age. Growing up in Puerto Rico, she was fascinated by the powerful hurricanes that often battered the island. She knew she wanted to understand these natural forces and help people stay safe. Monzón earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology from the University of Oklahoma and then went on to work at the National Weather Service in San Juan. She quickly rose through the ranks, becoming the first woman to hold the position of Meteorologist in Charge of the San Juan office. Monzón was also the first woman in Puerto Rico to hold the title of Certified Broadcast Meteorologist. Her work as a meteorologist had a major impact on the island, helping people prepare for storms and other weather events.

In addition to her work as a meteorologist, Monzón is also a dedicated advocate for science education. She believes that everyone should have the opportunity to learn about the world around them, and she is committed to making science accessible to all. Monzón founded the EcoExploratorio: Museum of Sciences in 2011. This innovative museum offers interactive exhibits that teach visitors about science, technology, engineering, and math.
